Horizon Elliptical Trainer
For those that are new to working out on ellipticals, the feeling is often described as running on air. It is an unusual sensation at first but you soon get used to it. The Horizon elliptical trainer attributes its fluid motion to the flywheel at the front. Horizons can be found in many fitness stores and large retail stores like Sears. Johnson are the parent company that manufacture the Horizon elliptical trainers as well as being the makers of the premier line known as the elite series found in high end fitness outlets. The main difference between the lines are the exercise routine programs and the console.
For those who want to work out a couple of times a week the Horizon elliptical trainer is popular. They are priced from low to medium for an elliptical but this does not mean they do not perform well, as long as they are used at home on a casual basis. If you want to use the trainer three or more times a week intensively, then high end elliptical trainers will more suit your needs.
Owners of the Horizon have commented on braking system issues and problems with plastic parts failing. Out of the models the Horizon EX 75 Dual Action trainer as a home elliptical has an okay reputation. Owners report that the resistance levels are easy to adjust and the platform is stable. It sells for about $1000. Ideally this is the minimum you should pay for an elliptical trainer – maybe even go to $1200 so that you get a machine that is going to have some durability. The Horizon EX75 and CSE 4.6 ellipticals are worth considering.
The higher priced Horizons are also a good purchase but whatever model you are looking at, test it out first. Some fitness outlets will let you do this and it is a good idea to get a feel for them. Spend at least 30 minutes on it, listening for unusual noises, checking its stability and how easy it is to use. Also look at the programs it offers and see if they meet your needs.
The warranty on the Horizon is disappointing at only one year. It would be a good idea to spend more on an extended warranty.
